Statement on Israeli Situation

10/10/2023

The Atlanta Rabbinical Association joins together with the Jewish world in expressing its shock, dismay, and grief at the events unfolding in Israel.

As spiritual leaders throughout Atlanta, many of us were leading our communities in holy day prayers when we were told the news of these tragedies.  Then, like so many families in the State of Israel, we became broken ourselves, as the joy of the holiday turned to mourning.

We encourage members of our greater Atlanta community in need of spiritual guidance (in particular, Israelis living in Atlanta, as well as those with family living in Israel) to reach out to any member of the ARA for support. Please access our directory at https://atlrabbis.org/. We are here for you.

We also call on all members of our Atlanta community, of all faiths and creeds, to join us at the community-wide gathering at City Springs on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. for a moment of reflection, mourning, and prayer.  At our gathering, we will pray for the protection of the brave members of the Israeli Defense Forces.  We will ask God to send strength to those currently in captivity and to frustrate the actions of evildoers. Ultimately, we pray for peace.

In this moment, we call on the God who heals the broken-hearted to send consolation and strength to the myriad grieving families among our people.

We stand with the people of Israel.  Am Yisrael Chai.
